Crack in Wanapum Dam Equals New Beaches

The crack in the Wanapum Dam and the subsequent lowering of the water level has produced many new area of sand beaches. These areas are drawing a lot of people to the area just to see areas that are normally underwater. Also, due to this level of water, it is revealing a lot of junk, including a multitude of old tires. I was told today by one of the workers that all the shoreline above the damn is being closed to the public because it can be hazardous since the sand is so soft and there have already been rescues made. You can get a nice view of the new shoreline right off the main 243 highway, so it is best to view from this area and not subject yourself to the hazardous conditions of the shoreline.
