A pit bull dog found staggering down Faye Street in Shreveport Wednesday night was so malnourished and weak, it could barely walk.
"We had to pick him up to get him on the truck," said Annette Lewis of Caddo Animal Services.
"We picked him up to get him where his food is at. We picked him up to get him back on his blanket.
"
Officers named the dog Shamrock because they say he's lucky to be alive.
And also very grateful.
"He wagged his tail; he was happy to see us when we picked him up," Lewis said. "He was really happy when we gave him a blanket; he just curled up on it.
"
When Shamrock is released from the veterinarian's clinic, he will be adopted by a pit bull rescue group in Arkansas. The vet determined he had been starved, Lewis said.
Authorities are still looking for the dog's owner.
