RENTON, Wash. (AP) - Yes, Roy Lewis still has the Super Bowl ring he won in February when he was with the Pittsburgh Steelers.
The former Washington Husky was just too modest to flash it around Monday on his first day with the Seahawks. "It's with me. It's always with me," Lewis said with a smile of his 14-karat yellow gold jewel with 63 round diamonds. "I'll bring it by on Wednesday." That will be his second practice with the Seahawks. Same for Logan Payne, brought back to the practice squad after being cut when regular-season rosters were set on Saturday. Payne and former Oregon State wide receiver Mike Hass are the two wideouts on the eight-man practice squad. Also on it: safety Jamar Adams, rookie Devin Moore, rookie offensive lineman Blake Schlueter, offensive tackle Kyle Williams and linebacker Thomas Williams. Lewis called it "definitely special" to come back to Seattle, where he was a captain for the Huskies two years ago. "I believe this is a championship-caliber team," he said of the revamped Seahawks, who open Sunday against St. Louis. "And I just came from a championship-caliber team." --- BRANCH-ING OUT: Deion Branch was back with fellow wide receiver Nate Burleson returning kickoffs in practice for the first time. Running back Justin Forsett was also returning them. Branch had reconstructive knee surgery in February 2008. Burleson had the same surgery last fall. Branch, who had a follow-up, clean-out surgery this spring, did not finish practice. He was on the sideline wincing in apparent pain with a trainer at his side. In the locker room after practice, Branch said he was fine and that he just has normal practice soreness. --- T.J. WATCHES: Starting wide receiver T.J. Houshmandzadeh watched practice without his helmet. He sat out last week's workout with what a team official described as "general soreness." Coach Jim Mora wasn't made available to talk. The team doesn't have to file a practice participation report with the league until Wednesday. |
