M's Lose Game, Lose Injured Player, & Possibly Lose Pitcher
By Keith Leventhal
Speaking of struggling baseball teams, its time to talk about the Seattle Mariners.
Unlike the Dust Devils, the M's haven't been blowing leads...mainly because they haven't had any. During their series with Boston, the Mariners haven't led the Red Sox for any of the 18 innings they've played. And Wednesday afternoon, Boston tried to keep that streak intact and finish off a 3 game sweep of the M's. Jose Vidro hit a 2-run home run in the 6th to tie the game at 3, and it stayed that was into the 12th. But in that inning, the Red Sox scored 3 times and Boston finishes off the sweep as they beat the Mariners 6-3 in 12 innings. The M's have Thursday off before they open up a 7 game road trip on Friday in Toronto. But wait, we're not done with the bad Mariners news yet. Tuesday night, catcher Jeff Clement went back to try and catch a foul ball in the 2nd inning. He put his hand into the net to balance himself, and because the Mariners are just so unlucky, the ball hit his thumb. That collision tore the nail off of his right thumb...and Clement would end up leaving the game. Manager Jim Riggleman says he'll probably be out until Saturday. As for the M's star pitcher Erik Bedard...he had an MRI Tuesday on his sore left shoulder. While no new damage was found, Riggleman says he expects Bedard to be out for at least another 2 weeks. |
