Matt Sanders spent last year and the first few weeks of this year with the Tri-City Dust Devils.
But, Monday, the Rockies released him.
Sanders had a reputation for being quite the joker.
I interviewed him last year and, very quickly, he hijacked the interview and turned it into his own stand-up special.
We asked Matt, "Its got to be tough to come off the bench after a couple days of not playing and get thrown into the lineup. How do you get ready for that?"
His answer was, "What's that supposed to mean? Don't you ever embarrass me in front of my fans again. Next question."
After a long and awkward pause, we asked, "Umm...talk a little about the guys you're here with...(laughing)"
We also asked, "You're here with ben paulsen, a guy you played in college with, friends with from college..."
Sanders said, "Well actually, I mean its funny you said friends, I wouldn't really call us friends, he's a good player but a terrible teammate and...(laughs)...I just hope he gets moved up quick cause I've had enough of him."
Just to be clear, Sanders was joking around with all those responses and he was always very friendly off-camera.
He only played in 4 games for Tri-City this year, going 2-for-11 with 4 strikeouts.
No word on what he's doing next, but I do know he's headed back to his home in North Carolina.
