Farm City Rodeo Starts In Hermiston

By Keith Leventhal

I know we've talked a lot about baseball over the last few days.

Well, that's because at this point in the summer, that's about all that's going on.

However, on Wednesday night, that changes as the northwest rodeo swing gets started.

Over the next month, there will be 3 major rodeo events all within an hour's drive of here.

And that all gets started on Wednesday with the Farm City Rodeo in Hermiston.

This is the 20th year of this rodeo, and this year, over 400 cowboys will be in town taking part in 7 different events.

The prize money has also gone up this year, making this rodeo one of the top 50 in North America.

And everyone involved says this rodeo is becoming one of the best ones in the region.

Announcer Randy Corley says, "Years ago, when this rodeo started, they developed a new trend in the northwest where the rodeo became a better product...bigger money...more of the best in the cowboys and its something that's really fun to be a part of."

Rodeo entertainer Keith Isley adds, "The crowds are phenomenal, the crowds are just great, they're very easy to entertain, the people that come here to these rodeos, they come here to buy a ticket to be entertained, to have a good time, and they're just ready to have a good time from the get-go."

All of the action gets started Wednesday night at the Umatilla County Fairgrounds.

The first events start at 7:45, and the action will continue all week, until the final session on Saturday night.
