We're in that time of year where each high school basketball game gets more and more important.
In 4A, 5 of the 8 boys teams and 5 of the 8 girls teams that played in the district tournament advanced to regionals.
But, in the regionals, the competition was much tougher, and not that many teams advanced to the next round.
In the girls bracket, we only had one local team make it to state.
Chiawana clinched their first ever state berth on Friday.
On Saturday, they went for the regional title, but ended up a little short as they lost to Mead in overtime.
Over in the boys bracket, we were supposed to have a bunch of teams make it to state...but their regional tournament was just brutal.
And when it was all done, the only area team that survived was Walla Walla...they beat Kamiakin to earn their 2nd straight trip to the state tournament.
So, when the 4A state tournaments get started in a couple of days, we can all put our support behind those two teams.
And they're going to need the support, because they both got very tough draws.
The Chiawana girls got put in the toughest bracket.
They open the tournament against Federal Way, one of the 3 teams that beat them this year...and could have unbeaten Auburn Riverside waiting for them in the quarterfinals.
The road to the state title isn't much easier for Walla Walla.
They'll play their first round game against Lincoln, who just knocked off the number 1 team in the state last week.
Both of these first round games will be on Wednesday in the Tacoma Dome...and we'll be there to get you all the highlights.
