The winter state championship season kicked off a couple of weeks ago when the bowling titles were handed out.

But, now, things get busy.

This past weekend, wrestling, boys swimming, and gymnastics wrapped up.

And we start our recap on the wrestling mats.

We had 2 Big Nine wrestlers make it to championship matches.

Hanford's Caleb Gifford, seen here in his semifinal, won the 3A 135 pound championship.

And Kamiakin's Pedro Mendoza, also seen here in the semis, lost in the 4A 145 pound title match.

We also had a couple of small school champions.

This is Amando DeLeon, who won the 2A 160 pound title.

His teammate, Reuben Lopez, picked up the 135 pound championship.

And Prosser's Osmar Jaimez also won a title...he is the 119 pound champion.

Down in 1A, 2 Connell wrestlers are state champs.

You're seeing Hernan Serra win at 103 pounds and Nato Orozco won at 215 pounds.

And Ki-Be's Sheridan McDonald won her 3rd straight state title...she picked up the 135 pound championship.

At the same time on Saturday just a few miles away, the boys state swimming and diving meet was taking place.

Richland had a handful of swimmers qualify for the finals...and they're all bringing home some medals.

The top local finisher was Tyler Pickett...he finished in 5th in the 200 IM.

Alden Welsch ended up in 6th in the 100 free and as a team, the Bombers were 6th in the 400 free relay.

Nathaniel Weinman and Andrew Blanchard also made it to the finals and brought home 7th and 8th place medals.

In 3A, Hanford's Danny Tixier won a 6th place medal in the 100 butterfly.

And his teammate, B.J. Deatheridge, finished in 7th place in the diving competition.

And the final tournament that took place this weekend was the state gymnastics meet.

We had 2 4A gymnasts make it to the individual event finals...that's the first time we've had anyone there in a couple of years.

Michelle Fletcher finished in 4th place on the vault.

And Kayla Curtis brought home 5th place in the floor exercise.

In the 4A all-around competition, Fletcher ended up in 12th place.

And congratulations to all of our athletes who competed in the state tournaments this weekend.
