Connell Football Dominating Everyone In Their Way

The Connell Eagles are familiar with the state championship game.

The team is making their 3rd appearance in the title game in the last 4 years.

But this year's team might be the most dominant one they've had in a while.

The Eagles are a perfect 13-0 and they're beating their opponents by an average score of 41-8.

Last week, they jumped out to a 30-0 halftime lead over Chelan in the state semifinals and cruised to the win from there.

And the team says this is a very special group.

Connell head coach Wayne Riner says, "They're hungry, they're focused, they're, you know, probably one of the most unified teams I've ever had in the 13 years I've been here."

Connell senior OL/LB Michael Casper adds, "We didn't work that hard last year and this summer, we worked so hard and it'd mean so much to us this year. Every game is scary, you don't know, even the blowout games that we've had, we're scared for them and nervous, we don't know how we're gonna come out and play, but we come out and play every week, so, hopefully this week, we can get it done."

This is the Eagles 5th trip to the championship game...but they're just 1-3 in those games, and they've never won a 1A state title.

The last two times they made it to the finals, they lost, falling to Meridian in 2006 and Royal in 2007.

Connell will try to change those stats on Saturday as they take on undefeated Cascade Christian.

This game gets started at 1:00 PM at the Tacoma Dome.
