State Wrestling at the Tacoma Dome
TACOMA – It was a big weekend of wrestling up in Tacoma, as state championships were handed out, and many local athletes walked away with some new hardware.
In the 103 pound weight class, Ellensburg Wyatt Scribner battled it out with Adam Burchett of Klayhowya. Scribner pulled out the win 6-5 to take the state title.
At the 119 pound weight class, Royal’s Danny Barajas held on 6-3 for the state championship.
Zillah’s Chris Castillo took the state title for the 160 pound level. Castillo’s win makes him Yakima Valley’s first 4-time state champion.
The girls' championships were also in Tacoma on Saturday.
At the 135 pound weight class, Kiona Benton’s Sheridan McDonald dominated from the get go to win 7-1. The win makes McDonald the first girl in state history to win four state titles.
Another state title winner was Alyssa Calhoon from West Valley. She took the state championship for the 160 pound weight class with the count 8-6. With the win, Calhoon becomes the first three time girls champion from Yakima Valley.
