BELLEVUE, Wash. - Seattle Sounders FC head coach Sigi Schmid has been admitted to Overlake Hospital after experiencing difficulty breathing.

In a prepared statement, the team said Schmid was admitted to the Bellevue hospital Thursday night. He was diagnosed with pneumonia.

Schmid's condition has now stabilized and he is now improving, although he remains hospitalized as of Saturday, the team said.

Schmid helped Seattle become the first expansion team since Chicago in 1998 to reach the Major League Soccer playoffs in its first year. The Sounders finished the regular season 12-7-11 before losing to Houston in the first round of the playoffs.
