Fever Move To Indoor Football League
By Keith Leventhal
The Tri-Cities Fever joined the new Arena Football 1 league back at the end of September.
They were planning to be a tier 2 team, along with 10 or 11 other squads. But, half of those teams have dropped out of the league and that put Tri-Cities in a tough spot. So, Thursday, the Fever made a big announcement about their future. Fever co-owner Teri Carr says, "Basically, the Arena Football 1 league left Tri-Cities with 2 choices...football or no football. That was it, that was our choice. To me, no football was not an option, I'm not going to fold the team, so, I had to look elsewhere to play and the only other league that I felt was an option was the Indoor Football League, IFL." So, for the 2nd time in the last 3 months, the Tri-Cities Fever is changing leagues. They'll now be part of the 26-team Indoor Football League. Several other former AF2 teams are in this league, including Arkansas, Amarillo, and Green Bay. There are a couple changes the team has to deal with. The IFL only plays 14 regular season games, instead of the 16 the Fever have played before. And the season will begin in late February, which is almost a month earlier than the AF2 season began. Carr says Pat O'Hara will stay on as the Fever's head coach. And she says an announcement about alignment and scheduling should be coming in the near future. |
