The Kamiakin girls soccer team is no stranger to the state tournament.

They've got one of the best coaches in state history and over the last 2 decades, they've been to state 15 times.

This year, the Braves are back in the state tournament for the 16th time, but its their first trip there since 2006.

Kamiakin has dominated most of its opponents this year, averaging 3 goals a game, while giving up less than one.

But, over the last 2 weeks, they've won games in overtime, double overtime, and, in the state quarterfinals, they needed a shootout to beat Lewis & Clark.

And, the team says, that's actually a good thing.

Kamiakin senior defender Emilee Meyer says, "It has been crazy and extremely nerve-racking cause when you get down to those final minutes, you're just like, you gotta keep fighting and you can't give up and we're in really good shape, i feel, so, like, it really helps to be in really good condition."

Kamiakin head coach Chris Erikson says, "And I do think it will prepare us for these games ahead of us, these last couple games because all these teams, when you get into playoffs, are tough."

Meyer adds, "We're prepared, we're ready, our coach has us very prepared, so we're not too worried about it, we trust each other and we work really hard."

The Braves are trying to get back to the championship game for the first time in a decade.

In order to get there, they'll have to beat Issaquah.

Coincidentally, these two teams played in the state semifinals in 2006, and the Eagles won that game 3-0.

This year's game will be Friday at 6 PM in Lakewood.
