The Southridge volleyball team had a great season in 2008, only losing 2 times.

But, when the Suns got to regionals, they couldn't do anything and got swept out of the tournament.

This year, Southridge had another great season, once again, only losing twice.

But this time, the Suns made sure they wouldn't fall apart at regionals.

While they did lose a pair of matches in the tournament, they still qualified for state for just the 2nd time in school history.

The Suns have been at the top of the Big Nine standings all year.

And the team says the few losses they've suffered have brought them closer together...and that is giving them some confidence.

Southridge senior hitter Heather Worley says, "We've learned from those losses also and so I think that puts us at a very good spot to go into the state tournament."

Southridge senior middle blocker Meagan Doyle adds, "It feels good, we tried really hard this year and worked hard in practice and everything, so, its paying off."

Southridge senior hitter Jamie Lyons says, "We're all goofballs and we all are spunky and everything and so we just really are cohesive and mesh really well."

The Suns find themselves in the very tough half of the bracket.

On their side, they've got the top 3 teams in the state.

And they'll be playing one of them in the first round.

Southridge opens up the tournament against number 3 Skyview.

That match starts Thursday morning at 10:30 at the Toyota Center.
