Southridge Football Is Back In The State Tournament
By Keith Leventhal
The Southridge volleyball team has to share the spotlight this week.
That's because the Suns football team is also heading back to the state tournament. Southridge is making their 3rd straight trip to state...but this one wasn't so easy. In order to qualify for state, the Suns had to go up to Spokane and knock off Mead. And that's exactly what they did. Southridge played a great defensive game and ended up beating the Panthers 14-10. Since losing at Wenatchee, Southridge has won their last 5 games...and they've done it while giving up a total of just 24 points. And they know they've got to keep that up if they're going to make it past the first round. Southridge senior lineman Brodrick Hirai says, "It makes you feel pretty good, you know, beating the number 1 seed out of the GSL, but, we gotta go farther than we ever have, a few years, I mean, we've been in the first round the last few times, so we want to go past that. We're gonna have to play tough D and then we're gonna have to do what we do, run the ball and play tough D." If the Suns want to advance to the state quarterfinals for just the 2nd time in school history, they're going to have to play a great game this week. Southridge will hit the road again to play Eisenhower. The Cadets have been the top team in the Big Nine all year, and they're one of just 7 unbeaten teams left in the state. This game will be on Friday night in Yakima. |
