Big Nine Volleyball District Tournament - First Round (10-29-09)
By Keith Leventhal
Thursday night was the first night of the high school postseason.
Kicking off all the fun were the Big Nine volleyball teams. Their district tournament started with 4 first round games...and we've got highlights of all of them. Let's start with top-seeded Southridge...they were at home taking on 8th seeded Eastmont. And Southridge cruises into the semifinals...they sweep Eastmont 25-20, 25-15, and 25-18. Next, we head over to Richland. The Bombers are the 2nd seed...they kicked things off against Kennewick. And the Bombers move on to the semifinals...they sweep Kennewick 25-14, 25-18, and 25-9. The 3rd seed in the district tournament is Eisenhower. That meant 6th seeded Walla Walla had to make the long trip to Yakima. And the Blue Devils fall into the consolation side of the bracket...they get swept by Eisenhower 25-17, 25-19, and 25-23. The final first round game was at Kamiakin. The Braves opened up the tournament against Wenatchee. The Braves would end up losing game 2...but that was their only blemish as they beat Eenatchee 3 games to 1. The tournament will continue on Saturday at Southridge. |
