The Tri-City Americans opened the preseason this past weekend by going 1-2 in the Everett Silvertips tournament.

This weekend, they'll play their first games at home.

And when they hit the ice, the team will have a slightly different look.

The Americans, along with the rest of the CHL, introduced some new jerseys on Wednesday.

Ams players Kruise Reddick and Jarrett Toll modeled the new uniforms, which look a little different.

The jerseys now have stripes coming from the neck, down the sides of the player.

But the biggest difference with these jerseys is how they feel.

They are much lighter than the old sweaters and that should help the players on the ice.

Americans defenseman Jarrett Toll says, "It feels a lot different, they're a little tighter on the body, lot lighter, so, its definitely not as hot on a day like today, normally, you'd be sweating wearing the old ones, but these got good ventilation and feel good."

Americans forward Kruise Reddick adds, "Its definitely not going to change the way we play, it might change the way it feels taking it off after, but, maybe it'll look a little faster, maybe, that'd be nice."

Your first chance to see these new uniforms is just a couple of days away.

On Friday, the Ams will open the Red Lion Hotels Pre-season Tournament as they take on Portland.

On Saturday, they'll play Spokane.

And the tournament wraps up Sunday as the Americans hit the ice against Lethbridge.

There are a couple other Ams players in the news.

The WHL released a list of players who were invited to NHL camps...and technically, 2 Americans were on the list.

One of them is defenseman Tyler Schmidt.

Last year, Schmidt was invited to the Minnesota Wild training camp...and this year, the Wild have invited him back again.

This past year, Schmidt set career highs in goals, assists, and penalty minutes as he helped the Ams to their 2nd straight U.S. Division title.

The other Ams player at an NHL camp is Chet Pickard.

Pickard is still technically on the Ams roster, although he's expected to spend this year with the Milwaukee Admirals in the AHL.
