Ams Getting Ready For First Preseason Game
By Keith Leventhal
Over the last 2 weeks, we've talked a lot about high school, college, and professional football.
But, that's not the only sport getting started this month. The Western Hockey League season is just getting underway and the Tri-City Americans are just over 24 hours away from their first game of the year. The Ams will open the preseason Friday evening in Everett. The team has spent this week on the ice, getting comfortable with one another and with their new head coach, Jim Hiller. Hiller has gotten a little extra coaching help as Ams co-owners and former NHL stars Olaf Kolzig and Stu Barnes have been on the ice with the team. The Ams bring back a lot of players from last year's team, including most of their defensemen, although, they did lose their top goalie, Chet Pickard. The team will play their first preseason game Friday night at 7 when they take on Everett in the Silvertips preseason tournament. |
