The Prosser girls basketball team has made it to state 7 times.

In 3 of those trips, they made it all the way to the semifinals...and once, back in 1989, they won the state title.

This year's Prosser team may be the best they've ever had...the Mustangs beat Bellingham in the first round at state on Wednesday night.

Thursday night, they were back on the court in the state quarterfinals...and their opponent in that round was Elma.

For the 2nd straight night, Prosser holds on to win...the score was 61-56.

After the game, the Mustangs said they were very happy with their performance.

Prosser senior forward Kelsey Evans said, "We just came in with a lot of intensity and we knew what we had to do. We knew we had to give it all we had. We just went out there and played our hardest and it just paid off. OK, two wins away...it's exciting."

This win puts Prosser back in the state semifinals for the 2nd straight year.

And they'll face a huge test Friday night when they play undefeated Archbishop Murphy.

Earlier on Thursday, the Othello girls were on the court playing an elimination game against Burlington-Edison.

This game would go down to the wire.

But the Tigers couldn't hit a shot at the buzzer...and the Huskies end up with the 37-36 win.

Othello will be back on the court Friday morning at 9 against Black Hills.

Next, we jump up to the 3A state tournament.

The Hanford girls opened up the tournament Wednesday with a first round game against number 1 Kennedy.

And, unfortunately, the Falcons just couldn't keep up with the Lancers, and ended up losing by 13.

That loss put Hanford into the elimination portion of the bracket...and Thursday morning, they took on Hazen in a loser out game.

Hanford actually trailed early in the 4th quarter.

But, they kept fighting...and came-from-behind to knock off the Highlanders 49-40.

Laura Hughes led the Falcons with 16 points and McKenzie Snow scored 11 of her 12 points in the critical 4th quarter.

Hanford is now one win away from making it back to the trophy round...and they'll go for that win Friday morning at 11 when they play Franklin.
