Dust Devils Get Rockies 1st Round Pick

Dust Devils Get Rockies 1st Round Pick

By Keith Leventhal

The news for the Tri-City Dust Devils is much better on Thursday.

The team already has the Rockies 2nd round pick from this year's draft, former Georgia Tech outfielder Charlie Blackmon.

Well, on Thursday, the team was assigned another draft pick.

And it just so happens to be Colorado's first round selection, pitcher Christian Friedrich.

Friedrich just wrapped up his junior year at Eastern Kentucky and went 5-1 with a 1.43 ERA this season.

He was a first team all-american and before the season even began, he was ranked as the 6th best prospect in college baseball.

This is the 2nd time the Rockies have sent their first round pick to the Tri-Cities.

Back in 2002, Jeff Francis pitched in 4 games for Dust Devils before being promoted to Ashville.
