Cougars Prepare for UNC

Cougars Prepare for UNC

By Keith Leventhal

The Washington State men's basketball team has never played the University of North Carolina.

In fact, they've never even played a game in the state of North Carolina.

And I'd venture a guess that they don't even know that North Carolina has an official red and blue berry...the official red berry is the strawberry, the official blue berry is, well, it's the blueberry.

But that's all about to change.

This is video from Tuesday when the Cougs left Pullman and headed to Charlotte for their first ever regional semifinal game.

And in that game, they're going to play the top seed in the tournament, North Carolina.

The Cougs and Tar Heels are completely opposite teams...UNC likes to run, WSU likes to slow things down.

And Cougs Head Coach Tony Bennett says no matter what happens, they've already accomplished one of their goals.

Coach Bennett says, "Obviously, we're thrilled to be here, a great opportunity for our program, and you know, last year we beat Oral Roberts in the 1st round and lost a heart-breaker to Vanderbilt and it was a significant goal for our program to try and get past that."

The Cougs are now just under 24 hours away from their biggest game since the 1941 National Championship game.

WSU and UNC will meet on Thursday at 4:27 PM in Charlotte.

And you can watch that game, along with the rest of Thursday's games, right here on KEPR.
