The 2009 high school football season wrapped up in early December when Tri-Cities Prep and Connell both won state titles.
Since then, we've all been suffering from a little high school football withdrawal.
But that changed on Wednesday.
That's because it was the first day that high school teams in Washington could practice.
One of our area's teams took that very literally.
Exactly one minute after midnight, the Columbia (Burbank) football team started their first practice of the year.
The team held a full 90 minute practice and they actually did it in front of a crowd of about 20 people.
The Coyotes are coming off of a 4-6 season that saw them miss the playoffs by just a game.
And their coach says the players were really excited to be the first team on the field this fall.
Columbia (burbank) head coach Rich Harris says, "We had a great summer in the weight room and kids were excited and, you know, we thought we'd give it a whirl and see how it went. They're very excited, you know, they were anxious when I told them this spring that we were kicking around this idea, they were gung ho...they were very excited to be out here."
The Coyotes actually have a pretty nice schedule at the start of the year.
Their first 3 games are all at home.
Then, after a trip to River View, they'll be back at home for a big game against Connell.
Of course, the flip side to all those home games early on is that 3 of their final 4 games are on the road.
Their only home game in that stretch will be October 22nd when they take on Mabton.
