Novo Mondo and Caimao, two capoeira groups, perform in Old Havana, Cuba, Saturday, Sept 29, 2012. Capoeira is a 400-year-old martial art disguised as dance, born in the holds of slave ships and on the plantations around Salvador da Bahia, Brazils first capital. Once banned as a lethal weapon in the hands of Brazils newly freed slaves, today capoeira (pronounced cap-oo-way-rah) is more popular than ever, with schools across Brazil and in more than 150 countries around the globe.
