PENDLETON - New information tonight on a story Action News first brought you back in September. Pendleton was close to getting their first ever homeless shelter. A lot has changed since then.
In short, there will be no shelter. That's because of Dustin Havens, the CEO of Havcorp, has written over 37,000 dollars in bad checks. That landed him in jail and the shelter that was supposed to go up next to I-84 is not happening. Police say Havens claimed he had more than a million bucks in state funding.
“Through the investigation we learned they didn't have funding in order to cover the checks. Looks like they put the cart before the horse and began writing checks before they secured actual funding,” said Pendleton Detective Jim Littlefield.
Police say this isn't the first time Havens has been in financial trouble. He pleaded guilty earlier this year to first degree theft.
