Walla Walla's new police department is ready to go

WALLA WALLA - As officers settle into a brand new police station, there's no reminiscing about the one they left behind.

"There's really nothing about this place that is going to have any fond memories at all”, says Officer Tim Bennett.

It seems simple, but files can now go where files belong.
Interviews can now be done in an interview room and not in the lobby.
And everyone has a desk to work on.

"We would take our reports apart…add to them at the copy machine so you're actually using the copy machine as a work area", says Officer Bennett.

The 29 thousand square foot building now has a room meant just for children to keep young ones feeling secure during a frightening time.

"We had a need in the Walla Walla Valley to have a children's interview room where we can conduct forensic interviews of children who were victims of crime”, says Officer Chalese Rabidue.

Large meetings were also a problem. The station once sat in the bottom of city hall.

This spacious new meeting room can seat a large crowd.

"Rather than moving everything to some other location, everything will be set up right here", says Officer Bennett.

Volunteers now have an area to work in, rather than squeezing in where they could.

Officers can stay fit at the new gym as well.

And even the smallest officer has a place to belong.

This kennel is ready for the K-9 when he's on duty.

It’s a whole new building, built with money from the community and now ready to serve the community.
