Walla Walla County to hold workshops on preventing wildfires

WALLA WALLA COUNTY EMERGENCY MANAGEMENT DEPARTMENT -- Walla Walla County Emergency Management Department has scheduled FireWise workshops at two locations:

Walla Walla County Fire District 8 Workshop
June 10, 6:00 to 7:30 pm
10145 E. Hwy 12
Dixie, WA
(Bldg. next to the WWFD 8 Fire Station)

Walla Walla County Fire District 4 Workshop
June 12, 6:00 to 7:30 pm
6549 Mill Creek Road
Walla Walla, WA
(WWFD 4’s Station 45)

Participants include representatives from emergency management, rural fire districts, Washington State Department of Natural Resources, City of Walla Walla, and U.S. Forest Service. Discussion topics will include the upcoming fire season, defensible space, fire response, and potential mitigation projects.

“Walla Walla County has the potential for destructive wildfires. These workshops are an opportunity for citizens to learn what mitigation steps they can take to reduce their risk,” said Jim Duncan, Emergency Management Director.

Residents who reside, or own property, in the Wildland Urban Interface are encouraged to attend. All are welcome.
