TRI-CITIES, Wash. - KEPR learned troopers are ticketing more drivers for speeding on state roads.

With just a few days left in the year, troopers say they pulled over nearly two thousand more drivers for speeding than they did last year, that's five thousand more tickets than two years ago. Seatbelt stops are also up by a couple hundred violations from last year. Troopers say the DUI Squad freed up other officers to focus on speeding.

"I don't want to be involved in somebody else's wreck due to the fact that they are in a hurry and I'm not, I don't want to be involved in their accident," said driver Mike Maffeo.

Staff tell KEPR that these numbers will most likely rise significantly in the next week, due to the New Year.
