TRI-CITIES, Wash. - If you've been flouting the law on using your phone while driving, now's the time to put it down. Washington State Patrol is focusing on distracted drivers.

"U Drive. U Text. U Pay." is the slogan for a new nationwide program. There will be more troopers on the streets this month targeting distracted drivers, but troopers say it's not just cell phone use that's under scrutiny.

"Talking with passengers, grooming, going your makeup, fixing your hair, other stuff like that that might distract a driver and lead to a collision," said WSP trooper Chris Thorson.

Staff say these and all extra patrols are part of Target Zero. The mission is to end traffic deaths and serious injuries in Washington by 2030.
