Vandalized West Richland memorial now restored

Vandalized West Richland memorial now restored
WEST RICHLAND, Wash. -- A memorial to fallen soldiers that was vandalized a few months ago has been restored. And, it was rededicated today.

Veterans showed up for it at Flat Top Park in West Richland. They peeled back the sheet to show off the memorial in its proper state. Vandals took the rifle from it in March. It was found broken near the park. The real World War II helmet was missing and the boots were damaged. It resembles a temporary grave marker for a fallen soldier.

"It's really a very important thing that the public get behind something like this and it just shows where their heart is and where their emotions lie. As long as we have that, we'll always be strong," said Veteran Bobby Dale.

Supporters worked together to raise $11,000 to fix the memorial.
