EASTERN OREGON -- A Tri-Cities man spotted a fawn trapped on Cabbage Hill near Pendleton and saved the young deer by pulling back the fencing so the deer could fall safely.

Chad Anderson was driving toward Pendleton over Cabbage Hill when he spotted the trapped deer.

He positioned his phone on one of the reflectors on the side of the highway and videotaped the rescue.

He pulled the fencing back and some rocks fell. Anderson continued to pull back the fencing until the deer was able to slide down safely. The deer was struggling to walk so Anderson wrapped it in his car floormat and called Fish and Wildlife. He put the deer in the back of his SUV and drove the fawn to Pendleton where they took the animal to care for it with the intention of returning it to the wild and to its mother.
