Documents: Teacher charged with rape

RICHLAND, Wash. -- Daryl Rachinski was brought up on third degree rape charges today. The court documents tell a tale of a man, a minor and trust taken advantage of.

Charging papers say the alleged crime happened a couple weekends ago. Rachinski attacked a 16-year old in a Richland home.

Officers say the girl had gotten out of the shower, and he grabbed her private parts. Court papers say, when the teen suggested she was going to tell someone, Rachinski decided to turn himself in.

Richland Police Captain says that isn't the norm.

He says, "It is unusual and a lot of it had to do with the realization that the victim was probably going to go to the school district, probably going to go to the police. So he thought he'd be proactive."

On his Facebook page, Rachinski says he was employed by the Richland School District. Police called him a former teacher.
And late today, Richland School District confirmed that.

The District says after learning of the allegations, Rachinski was placed on leave while an investigation began. Rachinski resigned on Tuesday.

Cobb says, "Any employment questions I'm going to direct to the Richland School District and their H-R staff."

The School District was closed today so no one could comment on camera. Rachinski's name is still listed on the faculty page for Hanford High School. It says he is a foreign language teacher.

Police have not said whether the alleged victim is a potential student of his only that he was in a "position of trust" with the girl and she was not a stranger. Rachinski will go before a judge on felony rape charges the first week of July.
