Fewer illegal campers this season
TRI-CITIES - Avoiding disaster on your family vacation. Officials tell us less people are getting ticketed for illegal camping.

The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers tells us not as many campers are getting busted this season. Officials say the drop is the result of beefed up patrols.

They tell us the outskirts of Windust Park north of Pasco and Hood Park are hotspots for illegal camping.

The agency says they've seen some rule-breaking along the Columbia River, but it hasn't been much of an issue.

"We are there more to again and educate - just be a visual presence...hopefully gain compliance finding them the right place to stay," said Natural Resources Specialist Mike Swenson.

Rangers tell us they give verbal and written warnings before issuing a ticket.
