YAKIMA COUNTY, Wash.-- Eleven elementary schools in the Yakima Valley will be moving to all-day kindergarten. Washington state is paying for the full days for nearly 300 schools in the state.

Local districts getting new all-day kindergarten include East Valley, Easton, Goldendale, Selah, Sunnyside, West Valley, Yakima, and Zillah. Some schools like Outlook Elementary, Robert Lince Elementary and  Goldendale Primary haven't had all-day kindergarten before.

"I think that it's an awesome opportunity for the kids," Yakima mom Jocelyn Gamache said. "I think the more time in the classroom, more hands on, the better for the children. Interaction with the other students and teachers is amazing for the kids, especially at such a young age."

The goal is to have all-day kindergarten statewide by the fall of 2017. You can see all of the schools with the new kindergarten here.
