The veteran served in World War Two -- and lost an eye in combat. His daughter and grandson accepted the award on Choate's behalf.
The family says it was his courage and bravery that earned him the honor.
"I'm just happy that I could have this time. You know - my grandad died three years ago - you know - and he would've really loved this," said Choate's Grandson Jereme Eikert.
Choate's grandson is a veteran of Middle East wars, and said his grandfather's service inspired his own.
