KITTITAS COUNTY, Wash. -- Kittitas County Deputies confiscated nearly 50 animals in what they say could be the biggest animal neglect case in that county's history.

Deputies cracked the case after a two-week investigation in South Kittitas County.

They seized 49 animals yesterday and more today.

They say dogs, cats and birds were living in unhealthy conditions.

"It was deplorable, that's the best term," said Kittias County Undersheriff Clayton Myers. "Not proper food, not proper water, and had been for some time and just filth. Absolute filth."

Employees with the Ellensburg Animal Shelter helped rescue the animals.

Investigators say they plan to file criminal charges.
