PASCO, Wash. - Pasco is looking to keep you safer in the case of a fire, but it will come at a cost to businesses.

The city is installing a new fire inspection program, the first of its kind since 1987. Back in 2007, the city received 550 deficiency points out of 650 in preventative fire safety. A number that must improve on or the city will see a higher insurance rate. The program will cost $65,000, but business owners will be charged an annual 75 dollar fee to get inspected.

"The public benefits by having a fire inspection safety program, that means there is less chance of having a loss of either life or injury due to fire and of course, property losses will be reduced," said Rick White.

The next city check will be within the next two years.
