New policy: Young immigrants no longer deported
YAKIMA, Wash. -- Big changes to immigration policy will impact our local Latino community. Young illegal immigrants who came to the u-s as kids will no longer be deported.
President Obama announced the government won't deport immigrants younger than 30 as long as they haven't committed any crime.
The new rules still do not provide a path to citizenship.
They will let qualified people apply for permits to work in the country legally.
There are stipulations to the new policy. Illegal immigrants must have come to the U-S before they turned 16.
They must have been in the country for at least five years. They also need to be in school, graduated from high school or served in the military.
I don't support illegal immigration but I do have a heart for the babies and children who had no voice or say in coming here and growing up in such an unfortunate manner. They are just as American as my friends and I! And if anyone says, they should be punished as well, well think about this wise guy, were OJ's kids punished? Was the son of Manson punished? Were the children of serial killers punished? I don't think so. I don't even want to compare immigrants to these horrendous criminals.
