KENNEWICK, Wash. - Local businesses in Kennewick have reason to smile today. The city broke ground on a new hotel going in next to the convention center.

The SpringHill Suites will have 113 rooms to start. The Marriott hotel will attach to the Three Rivers Convention Center. It will be five stories with a restaurant, pool and fitness center. Officials say it is the kind of development to put the Tri-Cities against the bigger markets.

"It just shows what a great community we have, it keeps us in the running with Spokane, with Seattle, with a lot of those, we're not as big, but we're in the game," said Three Rivers Convention Executive Director, Corey Pearson.

Officials say that they expect to finish construction at this time next year.
