New alternative to chains approved for Washington Roads

TRI-CITIES, Wash. -- As the weather cools down, there could be a new way to keep you from sliding around the roads this winter.
It's called the "auto-sock." They were just approved for use this winter. Basically they're covers that give your tires resistance to snow and ice, but unlike snow tires, they don't beat up the highways.
Driver, Dean Broders explains, "Anything to decrease the deterioration of the highways... It's devastating what studs and chains will do to a highway. "
Auto-Socks range from eighty to one hundred dollars a pair. You can get them at most car dealerships.

Where can the tire socks be purchased? Anywhere local in WA or OR?
Can they be used on front wheel drive cars? Most owners manuals for front wheel drive cars specifically state : "DO NOT USE CHAINS ON FRONT TIRES".
