New MMA gym in Richland targets troubled youth
RICHLAND, Wash. -- A new MMA gym is training fighters and trying to fight gangs here in the Tri-Cities. Ferocity is in Richland off Columbia Park Trail. It's partnering with local mentoring programs, like the boys and girls club and even the gang task force. Despite all this, MMA has a violent reputation and Ferocity offers training for kids, even toddlers.
Trainer, Benjamin Barrajas tells KEPR, "It's not only for the little kids, it's for the adults. If you're going to train with us, you've gotta be disciplined and focused. "
If teenagers are part of the gym and have failing grades or get arrested they can be kicked out from participating.
