Caleb Leon John Scott (21 yoa), Matthew Raymond Hermann (20 yoa), and Jacob Lee White (18 yoa), have been identified as the individuals involved in the incident. They are facing charges of Robbery I, Assault I and Burglary I.
Hermann is currently in custody in the Creek County Jail in Sapulpa, Oklahoma. Detectives traveled to Oklahoma where Hermann was being held on unrelated drug charges in that jurisdiction. Evidence of Hermann's presence was found at the crime scene Northwest of Milton-Freewater, Oregon. This led detectives to Oklahoma to gather additional evidence.
Detectives then worked with the Walla Walla County Sheriff's Office and the City of Walla Walla, Washington and located Caleb Scott and Jacob White.
Scott is currently being held in the Walla Walla County Jail on an Oregon Temporary warrant for the listed crimes. The case will be presented to the Umatilla County District Attorney's Office for presentation to Grand Jury in the near future.
“This was a great success for the Key family, the Sheriff's Office and the citizens of Northeast Umatilla County,” said Sheriff Terry Rowan.
The detectives investigating this case have worked tirelessly to bring the case to this point. There is still a lot of work involved to put all of the pieces of the puzzle together and file the police reports, but citizens should feel a sense of relief knowing these men are behind bars.
This was a great collaborative effort involving the Umatilla and Morrow County Major Crimes Team, Oregon State Police crime lab, Walla Walla County Sheriff's Office, Walla Walla City Police Department, and several other agencies outside of Oregon. The Major Crimes Team is made up of Detectives from the Umatilla and Morrow County Sheriff's Offices, Milton-Freewater, Pendleton, Hermiston, Umatilla, Stanfield, and Boardman Police Departments. The lead Detective in the case is Umatilla County Sheriff's Office Detective Dave Williamson.
Joyce Key is still being treated at a Post Falls, Idaho hospital. The Sheriff's Office will not comment on her condition without permission from the family due to HIPPA Laws.
