More substance abuse counseling in schools

TRI-CITIES, Wash. -- KEPR found out that our local schools are getting additional Substance Abuse counselors.

ESD 123 will contract the counselors out to schools when needed.
They'll provide prevention classes and intervention for students.
After two of these positions were cut 2 years ago, parents were excited, and hope to see more of these programs in the home.

One Pasco parent, Tamara Matthews said, "I appreciate what they are trying to do, but I think parents are the first offense and in the home."

The salary and costs of the counselors is provided by DSHS, so no cost to our districts or counties.
