More students getting school lunches free or at a discount
TRI-CITES -- New data from the state shows a higher percentage of students are getting free and reduced-price lunches. It's a steady trend that's gone up in the past ten years.

Pasco School District has seen the highest increase. From 46% of students on the program to now more than 72%. School officials tell us ability to discount the food or provide it at no-cost is essential to keeping kids focused on schoolwork.

Tri-City districts also saw an increase of students in the summer lunch program. The Office of the Superintendent of Public Instruction says it doesn't predict a huge increase in students this summer, but this is the beginning of the application process.
