KENNEWICK, Wash. -- A memorial was held this morning in honor of the woman killed in the fatal accident in Kennewick last week.

51-year old Nina Howard was struck by a car on 27th Ave and died at the scene.

Friends and family tell KEPR she was an active member in the community. She volunteered at the Lao Buddhist Temple just about every day. She cooked for everyone.

Formal services have been held in her honor for the past three days.

"It's so very sad for her and her family. She doesn't have anywhere else besides the community and the temple members to do this remembrance," said temple member Sithonx Sehechanh.

The driver of the vehicle that hit her was 46-year old Michael Johnson. Johnson was held on suspicious of vehicular homicide. He was released from jail Friday. There is no word yet on if or when charges will be formally filed.
