Missing Everett hiker found dead in Cascade foothills

SKYKOMISH, Wash. - Search crews have found the body of a 30-year-old Everett man who vanished while hiking with his brother in the Cascade foothills east of Skykomish, officials said.

The man's body was spotted Sunday morning by a helicopter crew that was flying over the area, looking for him. A team plans to attempt a recovery of the body on Monday.

Lt. Steve Dittoe of the Snohomish County Sheriff’s Office earlier said the two brothers had gone hiking on an unmarked fishermen's trail that leads to Lake Simms when they became separated and lost contact with each other.

One of the brothers finished the hike and waited for the other - but he never showed up.

Search and rescue crews were called out at about 5 p.m. Saturday, but they found no sign of the missing man before nightfall. The search was resumed again Sunday morning, and that is when his body was found.

The man's name has not been released.
