Man in wheelchair rescued from Oregon canal

BEND, Ore. (AP) — A man jumped into an irrigation canal at Bend to rescue a man in a motorized wheelchair who accidentally fell in.

Police say 33-year-old Jesse Thomas of Bend held 56-year-old Randall Bush partly out of the water Saturday until help arrived. Bush was still attached to the wheelchair in shallow water. The Bend man was treated at a hospital.

Neighbors told KTVZ they frequently see the man in the wheelchair on a trail near the canal.

Sgt. John Maniscalco said there's no indication his falling into the canal was anything other than an accident.
