The number of confirmed suicides in Franklin County dropped from 14 in 2011 to three last year.
It’s a different story in Benton County – where there were six more cases year-to-year. Counselors and detectives tell us they’re not surprised.
“It seemed like when the economy first took a downturn, the suicide rate did increase a little bit. But in the last couple of years – it’s seemed to have stabilized and probably went down to normal,” said Franklin County Detective Jason Nunez.
Attempted suicides also fell in Franklin County – and rose by about 50% in Benton County.
