KENNEWICK, Wash. -- A terrible accident left a preschooler with severe burns. Her family still can't believe how it happened while her parents could face criminal charges.

Jadin Filla was like any other 4 year old. Her Aunt looks at a picture from December, "We got a new Christmas tree and she found this Tinkerbell snowglobe she just had to have, so, of course, I bought it for her."

But now, her aunt Vinis is reminded of a very different memory when looking at pictures. She looks away, "That's the one I don't like to see."

Jadin was burned over two-thirds of her body. Police say she was seen playing with a lighter outside her grandmother's apartment on the morning of July 4th. The family told KEPR that Jadin was just playing outside the apartment and minutes later they found her screaming outside the front door.

It's believed Jadin's dress caught fire. Her older sister opened the door after hearing the screams.

Vinis continues, "All of her clothes had burned off.. So she was standing there naked... and she said that Jadin's hands were melting."

Jadin was flown to the burn unit at a Seattle hospital. And while this looks like a terrible accident , her parents could be cited for negligence.

Sgt. Lattin of Kennewick Police explains, "Four year olds get into all kinds of stuff. They're not able to make good decisions on their own yet. And that's what parents are for."

A prosecutor will determine if criminal charges will be filed. Police tell KEPR Jadin's parents have been very cooperative. Vinus' still can't believe how this got so severe. She says, "You don't just go up in flames like that."

Jadin will have lifelong repercussions for the mistake she made as a child.

Sgt. Lattin says, "It only takes an instant for tragedy to happen."

If you'd like to help Jadin's family with her medical bills, there's an account set up at US Bank. You can stop by any branch and ask to donate to 'Jadin's Fund.'
