Scantling is accused of bursting into a Kennewick home back in March, and killing 24-year old Franklin Palmer. Scantling's attorneys declined to provide an opening statement at the start of the trial. Following the prosecution's case, the defense opted to argue Scantling acted in self defense. It claimed the victim was high on drugs and Scantling feared for his safety.
Prosecutors argued Scantling planned the crime and intended to kill Palmer because he was dating the mother of Scantling's kids.
