Inmate commits suicide at Benton County Jail

BENTON COUNTY SHERIFF'S NEWS RELEASE -- At about 1928 hours, on Monday, August 6, 2012, corrections officers from the Benton County Sheriff’s Office conducted a safety check of the cell that inmate, Christopher M. Britton (11-18-82,) was in and discovered that he had hung himself against the cell door. Corrections Officers initiated CPR (cardio pulmonary resuscitation) efforts and summoned an ambulance, but Britton could not be revived. Britton, a Richland resident, had been admitted to the jail on Saturday, August 4, arrested by Richland Police Department on charges of Obstruction and outstanding warrants for his arrest. He stated that he was suicidal and had been put in a safety room, where he could be checked on more frequently. At 1908 hours last night, officers had noted him alive and well in his cell. The Benton County Coroner’s Office retained possession of the body of Mr. Britton and has notified his next of kin.

This is sad for the family and I find Lee Warren comment is not necessary, it's obvisious this man had some really huge issues and no matter why he was in jail we should never make light of someone commiting suicide,  I will keep his family and friends in my prayers and pray this young man has found the peace he was looking for.
